Opening Day

In less than a week the local streams and lakes will be taken by storm. At 8:00 am this Saturday Thousands of people will be trout fishing!! I for one can't wait. The tradition that has been passed down for years is mostly the reason. Here are a few tips and tricks to try on opening day:

The hot baits should be:
Minnows, red worms, mealworms, maggots, salmon eggs and wax worms. Also don't forget about the power bait. Although I rarely use power bait a lot of people swear by the stuff and it does work!!

For the fly fisherman:
Egg patterns always work well and streamers are good for aggressive fish. Pheasant tails and caddis flies in size 16 to 20 will catch their fair share also.

Some tips and tricks to try this season:
Try fishing the out of way spots. Undercut banks and exposed roots or behind isolated rocks. The fast water always holds a few feeding trout. These areas are often overlooked by the novice trout angler and can hold a ton of trout. So instead of staying in one spot all day, after the morning rush take a walk and read the water. You may be pleasantly surprised to find fish that have not seen an angler all day!!

Remember: If fishing close to kids, let them real one in. The memory will last a lifetime for the kid and it will make you feel pretty good to. They will be hooked for life!!!

Good luck to all this trout season. Be safe!!
